Shirley Blocker Woods

Shirley “Maw Maw” Blocker Woods, age 82, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at Magnolia Healthcare.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Theodore Durham and Pastor Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 17, 1936 in Hampshire, Shirley was the daughter of the late Ottis Blocker and the late Hattie Tinsley Blocker. She was a member of Thompson Station Church of Christ. Shirley never met a stranger and was always on the go and ready for her next adventure. She enjoyed her trips to Wal-Mart and going to Wheelin’ in the Country. Shirley loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons: Jimmy Woods of Columbia, Tracy Blocker of Columbia; daughters: Melody Sharpe of Columbia, Stacy (Ronnie) Roland of Columbia, Renee (Tony) Stanfill of Columbia, Sheryl (David) Upchurch of Culleoka; brothers: Larry (Onie) Blocker of Columbia, Odell (Cathey) Blocker of Chapel Hill, Randy Blocker of Columbia, Jerry (Josephine) Blocker of Lobelville; sisters: Carolyn Taylor of Columbia, Lavonda Green of Summertown, Diane Alexander of Columbia; twelve grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Anthony Dwight “Snake” Woods on February 26, 2018; brother: Vernon Blocker; and sister: Glenda Hannah.

Pallbearers will be her Wheelin’ in the Country friends: Darron Buchanan, Mark Sessions, Robert Luke, Jerry Hurst, Phil Lawhon, Ty Webb, Anthony Franklin, and Toby Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will include her grandchildren.
