Steven Clarence Gandee, age 75, husband of Betty Daniels Gandee, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 27th at 11:00AM with Rick Points officiating.  Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26th from 4:00 – 7:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home.   Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on August 26, 1948, Steve was the son of the late George H. Gandee and the late Catharine Wells Gandee.  Steve was a graduate of Columbia Central High School, class of 1966.    He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1969 until 1971.  He was awarded a national defense service medal, Vietnam service medal, purple heart, combat infantryman badge, Vietnam campaign medal, bronze star medal, army commendation medal, sharpshooter medal, and expert medal.

In his lifetime, he enjoyed hunting and fishing where he demonstrated extraordinary skills. Steve was a very ingenuitive person and spent a great deal of time in his shop.   He was retired from CSX as a conductor.  Steve was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his son, Steven Scott (Heather) Gandee of Columbia, daughter, Kelley (Chad) Blackwell of Columbia, brothers, Mark Gandee, Donnie (Sandra) Gandee, and Gary (Patty) Gandee, sister, Georgann (Terry) McGill, and grandchildren, Shelton, Jaycee and Drake.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon McGill, Shelton Blackwell, Drake Gandee, Ryan Gandee, Sean Daniels, and Scott Gandee.  Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of L & N and CSX Railroad and Allen Vandiver.
