Mr. Thomas Eugene Erwin, age 75, husband of Marie Erwin, and a resident of Linden, previously of Columbia, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Perry Community Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in McCains Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 12-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 14, 1944 in Maury County, Thomas was the son of the late Floyd Alexander Erwin and the late Vivian Ralston Erwin. He married Marie McWilliams on September 5, 1982. Thomas worked for Keith Baker Homes for seventeen years and was a member of the Asbestos Workers Local #86 for thirty-one years. He and his wife, Marie, ran the By Pass Deli in Columbia for several years. Thomas was better known as “Grandpa” by those at Granny’s Bargain Barn and enjoyed talking to the customers who visited there. He always raised a huge garden and was an avid Tennessee football fan. A great sense of humor, Thomas could make anyone laugh. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and will be deeply missed. Thomas was a member of Bigbyville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Marie, he is survived by his sons: Matt (Holly) Erwin of Sewanee, GA, Jeff (Amy) Carroll of Linden; brother: Danny (Dana) Erwin of Crossville; sister: Mary (Tim) Shannon of Columbia; sister in law: Susan Erwin of Columbia; and grandchildren: April Marie Carroll, Haley Beth Carroll, and Hayden Erwin.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Joe Erwin, Carlos Erwin, and Johnny Erwin.
Pallbearers will be: Alexander Erwin, Doug McKee, Chris Shaw, Clyde Harris, Tim Shannon, Kenny Hanvy, Jeremy Baker, and Benny Bolton.
Honorary pallbearers will include: the members of the Asbestos Workers Local #86, past employees of Keith Baker Homes, and all of Thomas and Marie’s customers from the By-Pass Deli.
