Thomas Melton

Mr. Thomas “Tom” Melton, age 86, husband of Betty Lucille Melton, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Life Care Center.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Polk Memorial Gardens with Danny Clark officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 28, 1935, in Kettle, Kentucky, Tom was the son of the late Joe Thomas Melton and the late Clara James Spears Melton. He married Betty Lucille Cox on December 23, 1957, and together they had four children. He worked as a tobacco farmer for Jewel Farms for twenty-five years and later worked as a truck driver for Central Lime Concrete, Davis Group, and various other concrete companies. Tom was a jack of all trades and often enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, coon hunting, and gardening. He was a founding member of Zion Acres Freewill Baptist Church and helped build the church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Donnie (Melanie) Melton of Hampshire, TN, Joe Thomas (Debbie) Melton of Summertown, TN, daughter, Deborah McCormack of Columbia, TN, daughter in law, Deborah Melton of Lawrenceburg, TN, sister, Christeen Phillips Oolitic, IN, grandchildren, Dawn Melton, Jeremy Pope, Tabitha Brewer, Amanda Melton, Justin Melton, Samuel Melton, Sarah Melton, Hannah McCormack, Jacob McCormack, eighteen great grandchildren, and devoted friends, Joe & Brenda Adams.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dwight David Melton, son in law, Mike McCormack, sisters, Nina Marie Davidson, Betty Marie Davidson, and brother, Edward Jackson Melton.
