Mr. Thomas Richard Taylor, age 92, retired firefighter, and a resident of Columbia, previously of Xenia, Ohio, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 11:15 AM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Father Chris Bowhay officiating. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the church. He will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in Xenia, Ohio. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 7, 1928 in Jamestown, Ohio, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas Taylor and the late Gladys Bailey Taylor. He married Esther Lucille “Fudge” Taylor on November 21, 1952; she preceded him in death on January 12, 2006. He later moved to Tennessee in 2009. Thomas previously worked as a firefighter and was an avid golfer and a professional in his twenties. He enjoyed wood working, attending craft shows, and watching harness races. He was an avid Ohio State fan and loved supporting his grandchildren in any sports or activities in which they participated. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Xenia, Ohio and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Columbia, TN.
He is survived by his daughters: Jan Taylor (Norm) McKenzie of Columbia, Tennessee, Nan Taylor (Brent) Myers of Waterville, Ohio, Tom (Brenda) Taylor of New York City, New York; grandchildren: Melissa (Rob) Wiseman of Brentwood, Tennessee, Stacey Ross of Columbia, Tennessee, Kaylen (Jeff) Manier of Cookeville, Tennessee, Evan (Nicole) Myers of Willoughby, Ohio, Beth (Kienan) O’Rourke of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Zachary Taylor of Los Angeles, CA, Jacob Taylor of Richmond, VA; and ten great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Taylor, and sister, Elsie Mae Nickell.
