Victor Bernard Jackson

Victor “Vic” Bernard Jackson, age 72, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Turner officiating and with military honors provided by the United States Army.  Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15 ^th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Vic was the youngest child and only son of the late Lee Myrtee Jackson Halstead and the late Bonard Jackson.  He was born in Helena, Arkansas on December 5, 1950 and attended Central High School and received an associate degree from Phillips County Community College.  He served as an E4 MP at Fort Gordon, Georgia and was honorably discharged from the United States Army.  Vic was a passionate Arkansas Razorback fan.  He and his lifelong friend, George Hall, traveled to many states over the years to watch them play.  All of Vic’s kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and all other children around him knew how to “call the hogs” at a young age thanks to his influence.  The only two things that Vic loved more than the Arkansas Razorbacks were God and his family.  Vic was a man of God and was brought up in church spending his latest years as an active member of the Edge Church in Columbia, TN.  He was a strong believer in the power of prayer who prayed regularly with and for his family and friends.  Vic never missed a chance to witness to anyone who would listen.  One of his greatest joys was taking his grandkids to church to worship.  Vic was a hard-working man who worked almost everyday of his adult life to provide for his family.  He continued his service to his country by dedicating more than 27 years to the United States Postal Service from which he retired.  Vic developed many strong friendships with both coworkers and customers throughout the years.  Vic loved his mother dearly.  He would often play the song “Mama” by Roy Orbison when he was alone and said before that he felt that song was written for him and his mama.  Vic also had a strong love for music.  He never missed an opportunity to dance with his wife and grandchildren to the sounds of The Temptations, Sam Cooke, and Johnny Mathis.  It was no secret that Vic’s favorite season was Christmas.  He would hang lights at his home, his neighbor’s home, and would even drive to West Helena to hang lights on his childhood home.  The only part he enjoyed more than the lights was the shopping.  Vic’s greatest love of all was his wife “Sweets.”  Vic and Darlene spent 38 precious years together with a revolving door for countless family members and friends.  You never knew who all would be in that tiny 3-bedroom house.  His compassion never went unnoticed and he developed a love for all.  He once said that his greatest compliment came from his wife when she told him that he loved like a mother.  Vic was most well-known for his love of his crazy sock collection.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Darlene Jackson of Columbia, TN; children, Marc Jackson of Jackson, TN, April (Shane) Harmon of Columbia, TN,  Janie (Jeremy) Delk of Mt. Pleasant, and  Justin Jackson of Columbia, TN; sister, Nancy Jackson of Mountain View, Arkansas;  eight grandchildren, Alec Jackson, Blake Jackson, Taylor Jackson, Rayne Jackson, Mackinlee Jackson, Jayston “Vic Vic” Jackson, Jameson Delk, and Jeremiah Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Zander and Hunter Jackson; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, George Hall and Roger Fodra.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Janie Jackson, Carolyn Scufca, Joyce Jackson, and Linda Uzell.

Pallbearers will be Tristan Parks, Aaron Cutlip, Cayden Hart, Jarrett Stephens, Jason Brothers, and Donnell Liles..  Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Smith, Randy Tyler, Donnie Wiggins, Doug Oldham, Brian Wiggins, Drew Cutlip, Chris Cutlip, Michael Cutlip, Brad Cutlip, and coworkers of the United States Postal Service in Franklin, TN.
