Viola Malugin McCord, age 87, resident of Fly Road in Santa Fe, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Life Care Center in Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 11AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Buddy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in New Antioch Cemetery in Hickman County. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 4-8PM and again on Friday from 10-11AM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on August 10, 1932 in Hickman County, Viola was the daughter of the late David Crockett Malugin and the late Maude McCandless Malugin. She worked many years at Dixie Manufacturing and later worked at River Valley Mills before retiring. She was a member of Hilltown Church of Christ. Viola was an excellent cook who also enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her son, David Rochelle of Primm Springs; daughter, Brenda Odom of Santa Fe; brothers: Boyd (Helen) Malugin of Santa Fe, Thomas (Helen) Malugin of Primm Springs, Lesley (Ruby) Malugin of Columbia; grandchildren: Roxanne (Allen) Oguin, Jessica (Timmy) Brown, Christina Rochelle, Makayla Rochelle, Bruce (Lori Henson) Odom, Justin (Katie) Odom; great grandchildren: Riley Wesbrooks, Thomas Wesbrooks, Josey Brown, Peyton Pewitt, Harlan Pewitt, Mason Odom, Ruthie Odom, Oaklee Odom, Maddox Brown, Micha Brown; and twin great grandchildren on the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Thomas Rochelle; second husband, Jerome McCord, Jr.; son in law, Terry Odom; and siblings: Clara Mai Malugin Slaughter, James Malugin, Leonard Malugin, Cora Lee Malugin Beard, Paul Malugin, and Willene Malugin Roberts.
Pallbearers will be: Bruce Odom, Justin Odom, Timmy Brown, Tony Malugin, Jason Malugin, and Jonathan Pewitt. Honorary pallbearers will include: nieces and nephews, granddaughters, and friends at Hilltown Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Antioch Cemetery Fund: c/o Willie B. Coates, 300 Defeated Creek Road, Centerville, TN 37033.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice Compassus, the staff of Life Care Center, the staff of NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center, and special friends: Rita Hedricks, A.J. & Willie B. Coates, Betty King, Agnes Williams, Mary Ruth Ragsdale, and “Little” Helen Malugin.
