Wayne Roberts

July 22, 1944 — March 24, 2024

Elmer Wayne Roberts, age 79, resident of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at his residence.

Wayne was born on July 22, 1944, in Maury County, Tennessee, to the late Elmer Roberts and the late Juanita Cothran Roberts. He honorably served our country in the Navy and later retired as a furnace operator for Union Carbide. Wayne was of the Christian faith. He found immense joy in golfing and fishing, often sharing these passions with his beloved sons. Wayne also cherished the camaraderie of playing cards with friends, finding laughter and connection in those moments.

Wayne's dedication extended beyond his personal interests, as he selflessly coached boys' baseball for over thirty years at all levels, impacting the lives of many young athletes. He was an avid TN Vols fan. However, above all else, Wayne treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren, finding immense joy in their laughter and presence.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving sons, Brent Roberts and Christopher (Wendy) Roberts, both residing in Columbia; his brother, Paul Roberts of Mt. Juliet; his sister, Linda (Dennis) Harrington of Columbia; his adored grandchildren, Chelsea (Jason) James, Christian Roberts, Clara Tyndall, Jonathan Tyndall, and Kylie Revill; his great-grandchildren, Madison James, Haylee James, Joseph James, Braelynn Frisch James, and Trace Tyndall; and his special friend, Kaye Cheek.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Charlotte Roberts, who passed away in 2016. He often expressed his readiness to reunite with his Lord and his wife.
