Mr. W.C. “Moe” Moore, Jr., age 89, husband of Elizabeth “Ann” Moore, and a resident of Mt. Olivet Road in Columbia, passed away Wednesday evening, September 12, 2018 at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-7PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on August 24, 1929 in Nashville, W.C. was the son of the late Willie Clarence Moore and the late Annie Summers Moore. He was a 1949 graduate of East High School in Nashville where he served as captain of the football and baseball team and also played basketball. W.C. was named All City in both baseball and football. Shortly after graduation, W.C. began working for Monsanto Chemical Company where he worked for thirty-five years. He and his wife were owners of The Pawn Shop in Columbia for over twenty-five years. W.C. was an avid golfer, who once got a hole in one at Stoneybrook Golf Course. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge in Columbia. W.C. loved to read, and earlier in life he enjoyed gardening and canning.
In addition to his wife, Ann of 44 years, he is survived by his children: Michael (Laura) Spence of Baltimore, MD, Melissa (Richard) Ley of Columbia, Captain Tom (Laura) Spence of Ft. Bragg, NC; brother: Herman Dale (Dorothy) Moore of Hendersonville; grandchildren: Laila Kate Rowell, Carey Spence, Kamille Spence, Sarah Grace Spence, Naomi Ruth Spence; and great grandchildren: Brady Denise Smith and Tegan Marie Smith.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his children: Harold David Moore, Debbie Lee Moore, Amy Denise Moore; and sister: Helen Perere.
Pallbearers will be: Stan Tidwell, Jerry Johnson, Ray Strickland, Richard Ley, Mike Spence, and Tom Spence. Honorary pallbearers will include: Betty, Melody, Meledy, Debbie, Mickey, Rickey, Julia, Patty, Marlene, and Julie.
