Mr. Wendell Holmes Owen, Jr., age 75, husband of Linda Owen, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Polk Memorial Gardens with a visitation beginning at 10:00AM until the service hour.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on November 2, 1947, in Nashville, Tennessee, Wendell was the son of the late Wendell Holmes Owen and the late Dorothy Davis Owen.  For 38 years, he worked as a carman for the railroad, L & N, CSX at Radnor Yard in Nashville.  He was truly a family man, loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally.  Wendell was known for helping anyone; no matter what the time.  He was a hard worker and well known by the nickname “Who”.  Wendell enjoyed westerns and the October sky and loved his “Linda Lou”. He was affectionately known by his family and friends as “Lawnmower Man”.   “Wendellisms” were nuggets of information he shared quite often and also known for saying “Always do the right thing”.  Wendell loved the lord and was a member of New Song Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by sons, Scott Owen, Michael (Julie) Owen, and Ron (Dana) Malugin, daughters, Bridgett Puckett and Robin (Ricky) Chandler, sisters, Barbara Owen of NC, Vicki Dees of  NC and fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Owen and son-in-law, Lee Puckett.
