William Thomas Duncan

William Thomas “Tommy” Duncan, age 77, husband of Carolyn Wiltz Duncan, and a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 23, 2024, at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro. 

 

A native of Maury County, Tommy was born on May 30, 1947, and was the son of the late Cecil Moore Duncan and the late Sarah Rieves Duncan. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy with the Cee Bees during Vietnam, from 1966 to 1968, where he was ultimately exposed to Agent Orange. On November 5, 1976, he married Carolyn Wiltz, with whom he shared many happy years. Tommy worked at Monsanto Chemical Company for eighteen years. He later worked as a building inspector for the City of Columbia before transferring to the City of Franklin, where he retired in December 2012 as a senior building inspector. He was an active member of the Merriwether Lodge #192 Masons in Hampshire, TN, and the Eastern Star in Lewisburg, TN. Tommy also served as past president of the Maury County Rose Society and the Lions Club in Mt. Pleasant.

 

Tommy had many passions, including assembling model cars, traveling to Pigeon Forge, and watching his grandchildren excel in sports.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Priscilla (Carl) Ingrum, granddaughter, Madison (Caleb Melton) Ingrum, great grandson, Cooper Melton, daughter, Melissa Page (Craig) Duncan, grandchildren, Miles (Cayla) Duncan, Lexie (Jonathan) Adams, great grandchildren, Rose Duncan, Brayden, daughter, Pam Page (John) Bryant, grandchildren, Austin (Madison) Bryant, Alex Bryant, Shelby Bryant, and one niece, Angie Parks (Paul) Carpenter. 

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Parks Duncan. 

 

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
