Colonel Jerry Mark Brown, M.D., U.S. Army (Retired), dedicated husband and friend of many - departed this life on Saturday, November 5 th at Alive Hospice in Nashville, succumbing to injuries sustained just over a week earlier due to a fall. He was 75 years young.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Bear Creek Pike in Columbia, TN on Friday, November 11 th at 6:00pm. The family will receive friends preceding the service from 2:00 to 6:00pm. Burial, with military honors, will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX at a date yet to be determined. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dr. Brown was a graduate of Vanderbilt University having received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering before taking up studies in medicine. He later became a doctor of internal medicine, nuclear medicine and radiology. He served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Lt. Col. before leaving to work as a doctor of radiology at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. He retired from that practice before petitioning Congress to reenter the Army after the outbreak of hostilities following the tragedies of 9/11/2001. He served another 6 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel.
He was a long time HAM radio enthusiast beginning at the age of 13, eventually acquiring his extra class license with the call sign N4EO, and making contacts literally all over the world.
He was also a missionary, having traveled extensively, with Angie at his side, as part of Servant Group International, to Mexico and Iraq spreading the Gospel and sharing his extraordinary knowledge on a wide range of subjects along with equal wisdom, touching the lives of many and making many friends.
He is survived by his lovely and loving, dear wife, Maria “Angie” (Colorado) Brown; his nephew, Jeff Klingler (Debbie) of Lebanon, TN; great-niece, Cara DiCicco (Jim), of Lebanon, TN; great-nephew, Jesse Klingler (Jessica), of Lebanon, TN; niece, Geovanna Torres-Colorado, of Columbia, TN; and great-niece, Natalie G. Lopez-Torres of Columbia, TN.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jesse Glenn and Marion Lee (Kinnie) Brown of Franklin, TN along with his sister, Glenna Klingler, also of Franklin.
