Hattie Lorene Andrews Whitaker

Hattie Lorene Andrews Whitaker, age 89, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hopewell AME Church Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Her body will lie in state on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on October 27, 1932, in Thompson Station, Tennessee, Hattie was the daughter of the late Lee Andrews and the late Hattie Alene Presley Andrews. She was a graduate of Carver Smith High School and married Granville Whitaker in November of 1953. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2000. She worked many years on the assembly line at Lasko Products, before retiring. Hattie enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and talking on the phone.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Debra Whitaker (Albert) Jordan of Dayton, OH, Jeffery (Ella) Whitaker of Columbia, TN, Rita Whitaker (Thaggett) Polk of Columbia, TN, Tyrone Whitaker of Columbia, TN, grandchildren, Jermaine (Kisha) Webster of Pulaski, TN, Tedra Polk (Darius) Gardner of Columbia, TN, Tara Polk of Franklin, TN, great grandchildren, Na’Daysia Hatton, Jazlyn Webster, Darius Gardner II, and Dalix Gardner, sister in law, Ona Mostella Whitaker, devoted great niece, Tania Smith Gregory, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Secrest, Princess Patrick, Lee Andrews, Jr., Oliver Andrews, sisters in law, Emma Trotter, Lillie Mae Moore, Betty Whitaker, and brothers in law, Carl Whitaker and Horace Whitaker.
