Lena Mae Young Lane, age 79, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Magnolia Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Anderson providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Her body will Lie In State on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 12:00 – 4:00 PM with the Family Hour from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests, those who plan on attending the services, please wear a mask. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lena was born on August 31, 1943, in Columbia, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late George Young, Jr. and the late Jennie Mae Campbell Young. She attended Carver Smith High School and joined church at an early age at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. She previously lived in Nashville, Tennessee where she worked forty years at Meharry Medical College and was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved back to Columbia to care for her mother. Lena was the treasurer for the Confederation of the Blind for several years, a member of the Friendship Club in Columbia, Tennessee most importantly, a member of God’s Kingdom. Lena, Lena Mae, and Sis, as she was often called, loved people, was very compassionate, enjoyed all holidays with family and was a very good cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Gilbert “Moon” Young. She was the oldest living cousin of the Young family.
Ms. Lane leaves behind to cherish her memory her Devoted Sister, Georgia Ann Young Hardin of Michigan, Devoted Brother whom she spoiled, Rickey Eugene Campbell of Columbia, TN, Nieces, Vivian Hardin, Kimberly (Damon) Hamilton, Lisa Hardin, Nephew, Minister Travis (Sharkea) Hardin, Great Nephews, Terrell Shepherd, Quinton Hardin, Javontay Hardin, Great Nieces, Jalynn Echols, Nia Hardin, and Great Great Nieces, Samiah Shepherd and Amaya Hardin, A Cousin just like an Aunt, Ella Campbell Morris. She is also survived by Extended Family, Ms. Marilyn Coffey and family, Ms. Helen Thompson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Sharpton and Son, Special Friends, Jackie Manning and Shalita Manning, Mary Horton, Mother Aleatha Lawshea, Mae Cooper, Sheila Hardin and Stephanie Tisby, Special Care CNA Tech, Elaine Parker, Activity Director, Diana Polk, both at Magnolia, A Host of Cousins and Friends.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will include Deacon James Easley, Troy Jenkins, Vernon Ward, and Ronnie Nicholson. Flower bearers will include family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Rosemont Cemetery, c/o Leslie Oliver, P.O. Box 1924, Columbia, TN 38401.
